For the Occult Halloween Art Show at Sysygy SF Coop, I created this “Cult Skull Mandala” illustration with pen, pencil and digital coloring. For art shows, I always try to incorporate some fun collage or metallic finishings to the piece as a special edition. In this case, I painted enamel with metallic inks, combined with real elements of shark teeth, butterfly wings and a dainty blue horned beetle.

whitewalker night king art by Sherrie Thai of Shaireproductions.com

WHITEWALKER NIGHT KING, art print available on my Etsy shop. This Game of Thrones art series was super fun to do, but the Night King was by far my favorite piece to create as there were so many details and ridges to formulate. Throughout the art series, I wanted to pair the character portrait with their environment and a representative symbol. With the Night King, he raises the dead, so had to include a few whitewalker/zombie silhouettes. The amazing characters and interesting storylines (of George R. R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire”) make the series worth watching, though zombies in a fantasy world will always be a win for me 🙂

daenerys art by sherrie thai of shaireproductions.com

DAENERYS art print available. From the Targaryen line, Emilia Clarke’s character is an strong-willed leader and my absolute favorite. Also known as the Unburnt, Mother of Dragons and Khaleesi, she soars into the heavens on her scaly dragon friend, Drogon.

JON SNOW art print available. The ever-brooding King in the North (played by Kit Harington) is an interesting character with a great heart and of course, heart-melting good looks.

Egyptian Cat Bastet, Art by Sherrie Thai of Shaireproductions

Bastet, the cat goddess of protection found in Ancient Egyptian mythology, is immortalized in this illustration of pen/ink and digital coloring. Cats are often seen roaming about Egypt freely and revered, as they probably were in ancient times. I placed one of my photos from the historic Temple of Karnak in the background.

ART PRINT available at my Etsy Shop.

Artwork: Red Chinese Lion Dance

Chinese Lion Dance

Chinese Lion Dance is in honor of the Chinese/Lunar New Year, so many happy thoughts going out!

Like many of my recent pieces, this was created initially by hand with pen/ink, then scanned and cleaned up in Photoshop. I created the elements, primarily the lion and ground, separately (see Chrysanthemum Floral Design post), then collaged them together and added slight color highlights. I wanted to keep the colors of the lion very subtle, so the viewer could concentrate on the details of the patterns, rather than be distracted by lots of color. Red is the Chinese color of luck and the symbol in the top right represents happiness.

I’ve been meaning to create an illustration of Chinese Lions and the Lunar New Year is a great opportunity. They’re always so fascinating, especially after performing with a troupe with some folks in Oakland (many moons ago). I never tire of the tradition nor the pageantry.
