Tribal Penguin Love

“Tribal Penguin Love” is a mixed media creation, done by hand and cleaned up digitally with a few textures added. I did this cute creation with the holiday spirit of love and togetherness in mind. It’s available as a tshirt HERE at my Zazzle shop. 🙂

The Fates, Art by Sherrie Thai

The Fates, Initial Drawing

“The Fates” (or Moirai) is based on the mythical goddesses that rule the thread of life: Spinner, Allotter and Unturnable. My version portraits a darker view of the Fates, where the Spinner produces the magical thread from the depths of her soul.

Momento Mori, Gothic Skeleton & Horse Art, by Sherrie Thai of Shaireproductions.com

“Momento Mori” is Latin for “Remember Death”, which speaks of the transient nature of objects and one’s mortality. I wanted to create a world which celebrates positivity and beauty in all forms, where memories of love exists beyond the confines of time. The original artwork was created with ink, graphite, some of my own photography, and a touch of digital coloring. PRINT AVAILABLE HERE

Momento Mori, Concept Art Sketch

Here are some concept sketches for “Momento Mori”. I wanted to infuse some steampunk elements, but after the rough sketch, decided to add some roses to soften up the image. I’m pretty pleased with how this piece came out as it exhibits an emotional narrative.

Artwork: Burning Lotus, Meditative Skeleton

Burning Lotus

On their own, skeletons naturally have a great mystery to them, where they can sway towards the dark or light, depending upon the context. “Burning Lotus” shows a meditative creature with magical candles, inspired by traditional Asian art. While this piece has qualities of religious artifacts, the intention is not to offend, but rather, honor the spiritual connection to supernatural elements.

Abstract Roses Design on Vinyl Record, Art by Sherrie Thai of ShaireProductions.com

I’ve always loved vinyl records, iconic objects of great musical exploration and nostalgia. This piece is a combination of an older 7″ 45 RPM vinyl record and the newer 12″ 33â…“ RMP vinyl, with an overlay of metallic paints and a jewelry embellishment. The outward pattern is an abstract zentangle style, surrounding a circular abstract rose illustration. To get to this point, I went through several experiments on vinyl and a few trips to Rasputins record store but it was all well worth it. 🙂

Inspired by dark fantasy and watching too many episodes of American Horror Story and NBC’s Hannibal, “Excelsius Trio” crawled into my mind. Its ethereal quality captures the mysterious beauty and potential darkness of the supernatural. This Illustration was created with pen, graphite and digital coloring.

I had so much fun painting this wooden box. As a base, I transferred my digital design onto the surface, did some ink retouching, then drew some golden leaves freehand to complete the space. A few layers of gold and bronze paint were added to the edges, while blue painters tape was used while the black border was formed. As a finishing touch, a few layers of spray sealant was applied. This tribal turtle wooden box was donated to the HACNS Community School Art Fundraiser last week, where it’ll go to a good home 🙂
