Disappearing Waters

Disappearing Waters is a mixed media piece (pencil and digital) inspired by two documentary films on the deterioration of the Amazonian environment and its denizens due to global enterprise: “Return to the Amazon” and “Crude”.

Jean-Michel Cousteau’s “Return to the Amazon” exhibits how “human enterprise and expansion not only compromise the health and ecology of the river and rainforest basin but also inflict consequences on a global scale” (Source: PBS Site).

Crude is a dramatic documentary of how oil has contaminated the land, water, and ultimately the communities in the jungles of Ecuador. Many have suffered from cancer, death of loved ones, and skin ailments, driving them to sue the oil companies in a long drawn-out battle.
