Trapped: Domestic Violence Awareness

“Trapped” is an emotional piece for the “Yearning to Breathe Free” 2010 USF Domestic Violence Awareness Art Show.

I tried to capture the internal turmoil that some women are forced to endure. Images that I have seen of this unfortunate issue normally includes battered women and physical scars, but I wanted to address the emotional effects of abuse–sensitively–without the graphic nature of the violence. The hand blocked by the barbed wire, entangled in hair speaks to the helplessness felt by the abuse and occasional societal gender barriers. The subtle color scheme simplifies the content, causing the viewer to focus on the message and details.

Proceeds of the event will go to La Casa De Las Madres, a SF domestic violence shelter.

Inspired by Warhol’s Daimler campaign, David La Chapelle has elevated the Maybach luxury car brand to new artistic heights, rather than a mere commercial commodity. David’s vision was recognized by Warhol early on (Interview Magazine) and has since continued to grace us with grand, surreal worlds of decadence, lust, and beauty. The photos will become part of the Daimler Art Collection, alongside works by Warhol and Jeff Koons.

The winning bidder has to pay that amount to the Red Cross.

When you do this, you MUST make a screen grab of the donation confirmation page to send to me, the photographer. This is the only way I know that you have paid and can arrange for the print to be sent to you.

I will pay the costs of the print and the postage to the winning bidder.

Many thanks for participating and taking a step to help out.

A little overdue in sharing this, but here are some images from the annual Dickens Christmas Fair in San Francisco, where you could experience Victorian delights, cinnamon-toasted almonds, and steampunk revelry.
