This Garden Moth, Mushrooms & Leaves artwork is inspired by National Moth Week, created with pen/ink and digital coloring in Photoshop. These mysterious creatures symbolize transformation, and in some cultures, are viewed as death symbols and bring messages from the afterlife due to their frail nature of only surviving a short time (average of one to six months). Others believe that they represent intuition. Some species of moths feast on nutrient-rich mushrooms. In my piece, the lovely moths are combined with leaves, mushrooms and florals, to further accentuate their beauty.

“Fragile Solitude” is a mixed media piece on vinyl record for the Discolandia Art Show at 111 Minna Gallery, curated by Irene Hernandez-Feiks of Wonderland SF Gallery. Show starts on Dec 4th and runs through February.

The piece consists of shark teeth, obsidian, foam, findings, enamel paint on skull and giclee illustration, topped with resin. It is about the fragility of life, light emanating from the dark. The journey is marked by the mandala and moths. Obsidian symbolizes protection and the mother of pearl represents luck and prosperity… hope and beauty through the darkness.
