raven skulls, messengers to the underworld, by Sherrie Thai of Shaireproductions.com

Raven Skulls, Messengers to the Underworld. This mixed media artwork is inspired by the mythology of the raven, of a protective beast who journeys into the dark underworld to warn and inform humanity– a visionary creature that can see beyond the threshold of death, into the past and future. Fascinating that in some mythologies, ravens are associated with darkness, but in others, it’s associated with goodness and light, as a creator.

Created “Cult of the Sabertooth Kittens” for the Pawsomeness Cat Art Show at the Loin Gallery, San Francisco. The heads are inspired by prehistoric creatures and the bodies are based on sphinx cats. The inclusion of a robe and jewelry adds to the ritualism of the piece.

For the Occult Halloween Art Show at Sysygy SF Coop, I created this “Cult Skull Mandala” illustration with pen, pencil and digital coloring. For art shows, I always try to incorporate some fun collage or metallic finishings to the piece as a special edition. In this case, I painted enamel with metallic inks, combined with real elements of shark teeth, butterfly wings and a dainty blue horned beetle.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! For the past few years, I’ve been creating digital skull renderings every St. Patrick’s Day, so I’m keeping with the tradition. I watched the “Curse of Snow White” and “Sorcerer’s Apprentice” a few days ago and they inspired this medieval concoction with the alchemic mix of magic and science.

Ouroboros Infinity Snake Art Design is a dark surrealist rendition of the classic mythological symbol, where life arises out of death. My version lies somewhere between the juxtaposed worlds of destruction (bones) and creation (flowers). The piece was created with pen and ink, graphite and a touch of digital coloring.
