This real butterfly decor is beautifully housed in a handmade terrarium scene with a dried carnation flower, various moss and stones. I rehydrated and spread the butterfly wings myself, then prepped the insect for pinning. The background is hand painted and all elements are glued together within a wooden shadowbox at about 4″ inches wide by 6″ inches in length, and 1.5″ inches tall.

The butterfly is sustainably sourced from Asia. The specimen arrives from insect farms and aviaries of third world countries, eco-friendly efforts that provides educational resources, increases butterfly populations, and boosts local economies/communities while preventing deforestation (as local plants are needed to feed the insects so protection of their environment is paramount).
