“Old Mechanical Dragon” is another mixed media piece that had its start as an ink drawing and now lives as a photoshop-textured creation. Dragons are a favorite subject of mine, and they’re always an adventure to produce. I wanted to explore rusty surfaces and took some artistic licenses to my winged creature. The background is a grungy photo texture from one of my many walks around SF.

My first art fair was so much fun. Many thanks to all who stopped by my (and Stef’s) table. The best part of the whole experience was talking to folks and getting feedback on what pieces and styles spoke to them. It was enlightening that sometimes animals (particularly phoenixes) and other subjects became healing symbols for a dark time or talismans in one’s life. The art prints, magnets and the custom jewelry (art pendants and steampunk) pieces were popular, so it’s very encouraging.
The other vendors I met were equally inspiring, such as the uber-cool shirts from Like Minded People and the delicious miniature pies from Charlie Frank.
The Crucible is always a great venue–for artistic inspiration and fostering creativity. Below is a brief video clip of one of the fire performances. Beautiful!

“Steampunk Transitions” is a result of my fascination with the steampunk style. There is a nod to mysticism with the incorporation of feathers, which function as a shamanic headdress. The piece was created with graphite and photoshop coloring.

The holidays are here! What better way to celebrate than by visiting the Holiday Gifty Art Fair at the Crucible! This is my first event as a vendor, so I’m very excited. Here are a few photos of items I’ll be selling (art prints, greeting cards, magnets, jewelry and ornaments).
My art pal, Stefanie and 70 other vendors will also be on hand to provide you with a wonderful shopping experience. Steampunk machine inventors “Kinetic Steamworks” will be there to welcome jolly old Saint Nick, so hope you can make it!

In preparation for an upcoming Arts and Crafts event, I’ve been working on custom art pendants. Here are the initial pieces with “Tale of Two Dragons” and “In Love & Hate”. A spray sealant and clear gel was placed over the artwork for longevity.

“The Shaman” is inspired by the mystical talents of the old world, mainly those of Mongolia. Elements of mythology and steampunk surround the strong female character, while the minimalist color scheme highlight the abstract faces and swirl textures. It was created with Sharpie markers, colored paper and various pens.
I’m very excited to be a participant in this year’s “Sharpie Show II” at the Crewest Street Art Gallery in Los Angeles, CA 🙂
