“Of Death and Rebirth”, my finished piece for the Skate Art show at Mirius Gallery, curated by Irene Hernandez Feiks of Wonderland SF. The name is pretty straighforward–about the end and beginnings, shown through the skull and cicada, symbols of death and reincarnation. The mandala in the background represents nature’s cycle, that all is repeated. The skull is painted with flourishes, silver paint, and collaged with metal ornaments and abalone. The cicada is also painted with acrylics, color shifting paints, resin and topped with abalone shell–all responsibly sourced.

This beetle is sustainably/ responsibly sourced. The specimen arrives from insect farms and aviaries of third world countries, eco-friendly efforts that provides educational resources, increases insect populations, and boosts local economies/communities while preventing deforestation (as local plants are needed to feed the insects so protection of their environment is paramount).
The ladybug and Brood X cicada specimens lived out their natural lives and have been placed in a natural diorama, to appreciate their beauty and grace.
