vanitas veins, dark horror art by Sherrie Thai of shaireproductions.com

“Vanitas Veins” is a mixed media piece of a mysterious angelic creature, drawing breath from the bloody veins of life, perfect for the Halloween holiday. The illustration speaks to the mysteriousness of life. The blood veins reach outwards like wings, similar to how magic can call upon us in the quiet moments of the dawn 🙂

Waking Dream, Horror Dark Art by Sherrie Thai of Shaire Productions

“Waking Dream” is inspired by horror films, zombies and magic. The core of the design is a rendered skull of rocks, with the spirits seeping through below. It was mostly created via several pens and a touch of graphite. I added a tint of green and yellow for the eyes–subtle coloring via Photoshop.

Happy Halloween! “Skull Goddess” is an exploration into the lighter side of the macabre. It’s inspired by my recent trip to Southeast Asia, primarily Bayon of Angkor Wat, Cambodia, and the White Temple of Thailand, which depicts modern scenarios of good vs. evil. I created this via the usual pen/ink and graphite media, with a smidget of digital coloring. The pigments are kept to a minimum to highlight the details, but to also echo the stone carvings of the ancient temples.

“Forgotten Innocence” is a mixed media illustration of delicate skeletal cherubs holding on to the beauty and dangerousness of nature. This was inspired by macabre Victorian creations, mythology and the stunning Renaissance paintings of Italian masters.

Abstract Roses Design on Vinyl Record, Art by Sherrie Thai of ShaireProductions.com

I’ve always loved vinyl records, iconic objects of great musical exploration and nostalgia. This piece is a combination of an older 7″ 45 RPM vinyl record and the newer 12″ 33â…“ RMP vinyl, with an overlay of metallic paints and a jewelry embellishment. The outward pattern is an abstract zentangle style, surrounding a circular abstract rose illustration. To get to this point, I went through several experiments on vinyl and a few trips to Rasputins record store but it was all well worth it. 🙂
