This underwater “Sea Skull” artwork infuses some of the fanciful creatures of the deep ocean with a decorative bent: seahorse skeletons, shells, coral and jellyfish tentacles. I didn’t want to go overboard with color; rather, wanted to highlight the details. Creating decorative skulls is really fun; perhaps I’ll explore glowing eyes in another piece 🙂

macabre roses black and white drawing sketch, art by Sherrie Thai of Shaireproductions.com

“Macabre Roses” was inspired by the old bookplate designs of the Arts & Crafts Era and the Art Nouveau periods. Although ram skulls are incorporated into the piece, they take a backseat to the bevy of roses. This piece has a gothic romanticism to it, where skulls are not a thing of horror, but simply a part of life.

The piece was created initially with pen and graphite, then scanned, digitally colored, with custom textures created and incorporated into the background.

This “Lilith, Tree Goddess” Art print is now available on ETSY~ so add it to your collection today! 🙂

The piece was inspired by the famed goddess in old folklore, where feminine beauty and power reign free. Lilith is the goddess of freedom, courage, and passion. I created this piece with pen/ink, graphite, photography for the background and a tiny bit of digital coloring. The tones are kept minimal, to highlight her otherworldly qualities. Lilith seduces her subjects with her hands of branches as she is one with the earth. Skulls reside in her headdress, which were based upon the exquisite ornaments of old Chinese royalty, suggesting her royal status.

Tribal Alien by Sherrie Thai of Shaireproductions.com

The Aliens franchise has a new movie coming out on Friday and I wanted to take advantage of the fervor and inspiration to create a new piece. This tribal piece has a “throwback” nod to the classic 1980s movie posters with the incorporation of the vintage green glow, space pattern and digital rays. Below is the initial pen and ink drawing:

“Bird Skull Mandala” is inspired by the beauty of the macabre, with a detailed winged pattern drawn meticulously with pen/ink. I love creating a piece that combines the simple elegance of nature with the dark side of life. Waking Dream, Horror Dark Art by Sherrie Thai of Shaire Productions

“Waking Dream” is inspired by horror films, zombies and magic. The core of the design is a rendered skull of rocks, with the spirits seeping through below. It was mostly created via several pens and a touch of graphite. I added a tint of green and yellow for the eyes–subtle coloring via Photoshop.

Skeletons Playing Piano Duet, Art by Sherrie Thai of Shaireproductions.com

“Skeletons Playing Piano Duet” is an informal homage to my favorite instrument with a fun “day of the dead”-inspired scene. This piece was also inspired by Tim Burton’s “Corpse Bride”–I adore the piano scene in the movie where the characters tickled the ivory keys and started an infactuation. My illustration was created via pen/pencil with an incorporation of old photo textures and digital coloring. I always like to retain the original black & white drawing in its original state for greater flexibility 🙂
