The Aliens franchise has a new movie coming out on Friday and I wanted to take advantage of the fervor and inspiration to create a new piece. This tribal piece has a “throwback” nod to the classic 1980s movie posters with the incorporation of the vintage green glow, space pattern and digital rays. Below is the initial pen and ink drawing:
“Vanitas Veins” is a mixed media piece of a mysterious angelic creature, drawing breath from the bloody veins of life, perfect for the Halloween holiday. The illustration speaks to the mysteriousness of life. The blood veins reach outwards like wings, similar to how magic can call upon us in the quiet moments of the dawn 🙂
You can add this piece to your art collection HERE at my Etsy Shop.
“Waking Dream” is inspired by horror films, zombies and magic. The core of the design is a rendered skull of rocks, with the spirits seeping through below. It was mostly created via several pens and a touch of graphite. I added a tint of green and yellow for the eyes–subtle coloring via Photoshop.
“Horror Moth” is a skeletal rendering of the metamorphic creature. It seems in Western cultures, the moth represents horror, with the qualities of fragility and death, while in Japanese folklore, such as “The Dream of Akinosuke”, it represents a departure of souls. This is available as a t-shirt and entirely customizable. Check it out HERE
I’ve always admired the ferocious horns of the Dynastinae or Rhinoceros Beetles, so I combined them with a human rib cage, eyeball and beautiful wings. It’s enjoyable exploring sinister creatures and insects. The first was “Deathly Scarab”–perhaps a whole series to come! 🙂 The piece was created with pen/ink and Photoshop coloring.
Had lots of fun creating this mini collage banner showcasing some of my art for the Sinister Creature Con. It’s happening this weekend (October 17th & 18th) at the Scottish Rite Center in Sacramento. There will be amazing effects, filmmakers, and awesome horror creature creations–all devoted to the horror genre! Check it out HERE!
Inspired by dark fantasy and watching too many episodes of American Horror Story and NBC’s Hannibal, “Excelsius Trio” crawled into my mind. Its ethereal quality captures the mysterious beauty and potential darkness of the supernatural. This Illustration was created with pen, graphite and digital coloring.
With the warmer weather, I’ve been dreaming of tropical locales, and what better way to celebrate the spring than with a new piece of art 🙂 It’s entitled “Tribal Turtles with Leaves” and was originally created with pen and textured papers. The 5×7 print is available at my ETSY SHOP. Feel free to inquire about other sizes.
