Flower Art Series

Here are a few modern illustrations inspired by classic Asian paintings, created by pen and a touch of digital coloring. The lovely lotus flower, peony, chrysanthemum and sakura cherry blossoms thrive atop a screenprint background style. I took a little bit of creative license for the floral environments, especially having the lotus sitting in a tree, when it should be floating on water, but eh, I wanted the pieces to be in a similar format–of graphic fantasy, not reality 🙂

You could own your graphic art print from my Etsy Shop here: Lotus, Peony, and Chrysanthemum. Or get all three and I’ll be forever grateful!

I just donated framed/signed art prints to the Haight-Ashbury Community Nursery School (HACNS) Art Show Benefit, with all proceeds of the auction going towards maintaining the coop school in SF. I’m very happy to have been invited to participate in their event again this year 🙂 You could find out more about their April 25th event at 111 Minna Gallery HERE

Abstract Roses Design on Vinyl Record, Art by Sherrie Thai of ShaireProductions.com

I’ve always loved vinyl records, iconic objects of great musical exploration and nostalgia. This piece is a combination of an older 7″ 45 RPM vinyl record and the newer 12″ 33â…“ RMP vinyl, with an overlay of metallic paints and a jewelry embellishment. The outward pattern is an abstract zentangle style, surrounding a circular abstract rose illustration. To get to this point, I went through several experiments on vinyl and a few trips to Rasputins record store but it was all well worth it. 🙂

Guardian Lion

“Guardian Lion” (also referred to as the Shi Lion, or Foo/Fu Dog in the West) is generally an Asian breed, created to monitor important buildings and structures. My illustration showcases its mischievous personality in a modern urban setting. The background incorporates one of my photos of the old East Bay Bridge. The colors are very subdued, as many temple lions are sculpted in simple gray stone. It was created with pen, graphite, photos and digital coloring via Adobe Photoshop.
